Aisa Group, a consortium led by Spanish businessman Juan José Retamero, closed the acquisition of Cabo Vírgenes SA, an important fishing company in Argentina. This new investment consolidates the commitment to boost economic, productive, and social development in the region, diversifies the group’s productive matrix, and strengthens its economic position in light of the growth the country is experiencing.

Cabo Vírgenes SA is a company with 15 years of experience dedicated to fishing, processing, and marketing seafood products. It has its operational base in the city of Rawson, province of Chubut, has a fleet and processing plants, and currently exports to more than 50 countries. While its production is diversified, shrimp is its main marketed product.

The main plant is located just 400 meters from Rawson port, occupies an area of more than 10,000 m2, and is equipped with modern processing and packaging systems. It has a freezing capacity of 60 tons per day, allowing it to produce and export more than 10,000 tons annually with excellent standards of freshness and quality.

Cabo Vírgenes also has an operations center in Palencia, Spain. From there, all international logistics, marketing, and, in some cases, reprocessing is coordinated, generating more added value to production.

The company has state-of-the-art refrigerated chambers set up in Argentina and Spain, which operate at -27°C and offer a storage capacity of over 5,000 European pallets, ensuring the availability and optimal preservation of products for the most demanding markets.

Cabo Vírgenes has a fleet of its own and third-party boats with exclusive supply that carry out the capture of southern shrimp along the Argentine coast, adhering to the strictest international regulations to ensure the conservation of the species and environmental care.

It has two types of boats:

- Freezers: operate from the Port of Rawson. These are selective fishing vessels that operate less than 12 miles from the coast, ensuring a quick arrival of the product for processing.

- Freezing vessels: operate from the Port of Madryn. These are boats that carry out all activities on board, from capture to processing.

The flagship vessel of Cabo Vírgenes is the emblematic Espartano, which has the particularity of being able to catch shrimp within 12 miles of the coast, as well as outside of it up to the 200-mile mark. It is always among the top positions in fishing rankings, capable of capturing more than 2,200 tons annually.

The incorporation of new boats to the Cabo Vírgenes fleet is part of the strategic plan that the company will develop in the near future. An ambitious investment plan will also be developed, aiming to increase production in the coming years, stimulating job creation and social welfare in the communities where it operates.

Argentina plays a key role in the global wild shrimp industry, standing out as one of the main fishing areas in the world for this high-quality product. Since 2022, AISA Group has strategically invested in this sector, closely collaborating with fishing companies and the most important seafood processing companies in the southern part of the country.

Thanks to these alliances, and this strategic acquisition of Cabo Vírgenes SA, AISA will be in a position to distribute Patagonian red shrimp ready for consumption in various international markets.

Through this acquisition, AISA Group is consolidating a strong strategy of expansion and diversification in Argentina. Among other activities, in recent years it has positioned itself as a strong player in the mining sector of San Juan. Additionally, in this province, it has begun the development of a mega real estate project and will proceed with the production of photovoltaic energy and industrial lime.

“We are very happy to add Cabo Vírgenes to our portfolio. AISA Group is committed to the growth of Argentina, and we are demonstrating this in every investment we make. Argentina has become a global attraction for investments, and we are betting on having a strongly diversified position in the country, being protagonists in central activities such as fishing, electric energy, mining, and real estate development, among others,” stated Juan José Retamero, head of the investor family.
